Canting Batik: Traditional tool for Batik from Indonesia

Canting Batik is Indonesian traditional tool used to apply wax in fine dots and lines on the fabric. Regardless of where wax is applied, the fabric holding the next dye bath is placed in ... leaving white dots / line (or another color if the fabric is dyed).

Though the size of most canting are similar .. the difference is in the "tip" that allows the wax to flow from the "bowl". Bigger holes in the tip allow wider lines and bigger dots.

Auction Batik Motif Wedhus Gembel

Eruption of Mount Merapi have inspired craftsmen to create works of batik batik-patterned Merapi disaster. One of them is a batik-patterned 'wedus trash' and Mount Merapi.
Batik-patterned 3 Mount Merapi and 'wedus Gembel' was auctioned in Central Java Batik Exhibition at the Ministry of Industry Plaza, Jl Gatot Subroto, Jakarta.
Batik-patterned specifically the total sold for Rp 103 million.
In this exhibition also featured 52 booths batik from Central Java. Batik Merapi and wedus trash is the work of Komar batik artisans from West Java. [Via]
